Foley Fun FaQs

I love the flexibility and small class size. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. My stress level actually went down during the whole college process.

Do you have a search bar in which I can search your site?

Yes. Here it is - enter any keywords to find the information you seek. Or just do it the old-fashioned way: call us at 732-412-1416.

Do you tutor at home?

No. All tutoring takes place in one of our Foley Prep Hubs or online.

CAN I combine CLASSES AND PRIVATE TUTORING?

Yes. Many of our clients do a combination of classes and tutoring. Going over a practice test with one of our tutors is an especially good use of time.

WHEN DO I BEGIN CLASSES?

There is no specific beginning or end to your test prep. Every student is unique - some students may only need a few classes, while others will be with Foley for a year or more. By registering for classes at least 24 hours in advance, new students will find that our Foley Prep Pros have prepared for your first-timer experience to phase you into the program seamlessly. Even the highest scoring students will be shown strategies and taught academic concepts that will challenge them in our classes,

IS THERE AN ORDER TO YOUR CLASSES?

We have designed the program so that each class is modular and tailored to the needs of the group of students (registering at least 24 hours in advance helps us to address your child's specific needs). Small class sizes and dedicated teachers who get 2 hours of prep time each day allow us to personalize each lesson.

DO THE CLASSES EVER REPEAT?

No two classes are exactly alike. Many of the same concepts and strategies will be reviewed, but the specific questions we use in class do no repeat. Because the SAT and ACT cycle through the same concepts test after test, we have designed our classes to be taken multiple times. We reinforce concepts and strategies and personalize each lesson to address the specific needs of the students in class. We do this by keeping track of every student's progress in the classes he or she attends and by looking at his or her test scores. Foley Prep Pros get to work early to customize each lesson for the classes of 3-8 kids they will see that evening.

HOW MUCH WILL MY SCORE GO UP?

Talk to your friends and read the testimonials peppered in throughout this site! Any company that publishes a score increase claim is putting salesmanship over honesty. Score increase claims are so easy to fudge that they are meaningless. Every student starts out in a different place. Coming to Foley over time is the best way to maximize your scores.

HOW IMPORTANT ARE PRACTICE TESTS? WHEN DO I GET RESULTS?

Practice tests are very important. Think of taking regular practice tests (one after every 3 or 4 classes) as a concentrated burst of homework, yet sitting with 10-15 other students is far more effective than sitting at home and doing sections piecemeal. Students are held accountable by taking tests, and so are we. While we do not encourage students to focus on the number (it often takes a few tests to see gains), practice tests are one of the best ways to help that number go up. We administer full-length, official practice tests every Saturday and Sunday during the school year. During the summer we offer 4 practice tests every week.

HOW MANY CLASSES SHOULD I TAKE? WHICH ONES?

While some students go to town and do 20 classes and 10 hours of tutoring before sitting for an actual exam, about 10-12 classes between each test is the sweet spot. Foley Prep has flexible scheduling so no two students have to take the same set of classes. Many students come to us during the summer between sophomore and junior years to get an edge on their prep and to work on fundamentals for their upcoming academic classes.

IS THERE HOMEWORK?

Yes and no. We have designed the program so that students who come to 2 classes a week and take a practice test every 4 classes should be very prepared for an upcoming test. However, we do assign homework after each class and more if a student needs it or a parent insists.

HOW BIG ARE YOUR CLASSES? DO I NEED TO REGISTER FOR CLASS?

Our average class size is 3 students. Our maximum class size is 8 students (boot camps can get bigger). Please register at least 24 hours in advance so that our Foley Prep Pros can customize their lessons to address each student's specific weakness during that class.

Our hubs hold 12 SAT and 12 ACT two-hour classes each week. Our teachers have autonomy. They adapt each session to zero in on exact topics to help the specific needs of the students. Our teachers and staff will help you select which classes on the phone or in person. Note: for students already scoring in the top or bottom 10%, we recommend private tutoring. View today's class schedule.

A Test Prep Sweatshop

If getting into a great college is the ultimate goal, then 8-hour-a-day SAT summer camps are counterproductive. There are much better uses for your child's time. We are not the kind of place that pulverizes kids with drills. We believe that test prep can be done in a fun, efficient way that does not lead to burnout. Through effective use of humor and thoughtful teacher-moves Foley Prep kids are encouraged to unleash their creativity as they develop a test-taking mindset within a reasonable amount of time. Concepts and strategies are reinforced in settings that do not give off the "this is just like school" vibe.
