very proud of all students' acceptances into colleges this year. we have 8 admitted into the Ivy League as of february 2018:

Growing by 50% each year since 2013!

Our average class size is 3 students. We canceled less than 1% of our classes in 2017.

I’ve been going to Foley for tutoring since I was 13. Foley makes the whole college prep process painless. The tutors are experts in math, reading, and science. The waffles don’t suck either!

Small, customized, effective Classes

Start any week. We will phase your child into the program he or she will begin to progress through every concept and strategy within several weeks. In 2017, our unique class system helped more than 700 students achieve higher SAT and ACT scores. So far 2017/2018 academic year, 5 class students got 35s on their ACTs and many more have made gains of 6-8+ points on their ACTS and 200+ points on their SATs. The average Foley Prep ACT or SAT class is 3 students - and the maximum is 8 students. We personalize each lesson to address students' areas of weakness so no two lessons are the same. Five day Boot Camps before each test are highly effective as intensive reviews and can have up to 20 students.

My daughter did 10 classes then private tutoring with Liam. Some places do tutoring. Some do classes. I love Foley because both the tutoring and the classes are excellent!

Professor Foley has helped thousands of kids get into their top-choice colleges. Three students started at Yale University in fall 2017!

What makes Foley better than the rest...

test prep and admissions zealotry!

Professor Ronald Foley is a lifelong student, academic, and educationalist who grew up in Haddonfield, New Jersey. Thanks to his SAT tutor, Myles Bass, Ron scored 1540 on his SAT which got him a full scholarship to study Art and Art History in the Rutgers College Honors Program. Myles's overall positive effect also inspired Ron at an early age to become a test prep virtuoso. After a decade working as an award-winning Director for Kaplan and The Princeton Review, Ron earned his M.S. in Pure Math and is now a doctoral candidate at Rutgers. He has assembled a team of dedicated, full-time, permanent experts that leverages its strengths and Ron's methods to help your child maximize his or her score. Foley Prep Pros are experts in each topic and strategy and continually adapt methods, topics, and questions to address the needs of every class. With top test scores and degrees from Caltech, NYU, Brown University, Columbia, Johns Hopkins, and the Rutgers College Honors Program, our team rocks. View team and philosophy.

Professor Foley has visited more than 250 colleges and is the 1,000th member of HECA. He is also a member of NACAC, NJACAC, NCTM, and MAA.  In 2002, he scored thousands of SAT essays for the College Board. He has been to more College Board and admissions conferences than he'd ever care to admit.

Ron regularly meets with academics who develop test items for the College Board. We know where the SAT is today, and where it's going tomorrow.

Foley Prepsters make Bigger Score Gains in Less time

We've been expanding in New Jersey for good reason: our students make huge strides on their standardized test scores and in their grades because our teachers are incredible. Most are full-time, permanent, salaried employees. Not all students start out excited to get tutored or go to an SAT or ACT class, but bring them to Foley and you will see a transformation. We use quantitative data that we gather on each student (we keep records on each student's performance over time) as well as qualitative data (that's the people-part: we attend to learning affect through humor, thoughtful teacher-moves, and when all else fails, waffles) to make learning relevant, efficient, and fun.  View team and philosophy.

I am now a grammar god! I learned more grammar from Foley than I ever learned in school.
— W.P., Ridge '17, Dartmouth '21

2 Phds, 1 doctoral candidate, 4 masters degrees. Fine and dandy, for sure; kids love us because we keep things fun and productive.

I love that I can read about your teachers before joining. I’ve heard about you and compared you to (a national chain) and you get it right!

Inspired, relaxing learning "HUbs"

After working for The Princeton Review and Kaplan for more than a 10 years (then teaching HS math before becoming a tenured math professor), Ron opened his first office in 2006. Our newest hub is in the storied Bell Works building in Holmdel. Now there are 3 full Foley Prep Hubs and one satellite office. We think students learn better in a controlled setting away from the distractions of home and the dullness of school. Our faculty gains from the collaborative atmosphere in which we exchange ideas to individualize learning for each child. View Foley Hub locations.

He took the October 7 SAT and got a score of 1480. He is very happy with that score. Thank you so much for your help! Your team helped him increase his score by almost 300 points!”

The team at Foley definitely know what they are doing. We couldn’t be more pleased with our son’s progress. I admit, i was a bit skeptical - and probably drove Ron crazy these past few
months, no doubt. However, he kept telling me to just trust the process.. and he was right.. Thanks, Ron!!!!

Getting started with Foley

50% and 71%. Those statistics speak volumes about us. We have grown 50% each year since 2013. Of our 1-on-1 and class package holders, 71% renewed for 2 or more packages. Most students prep for 2 ACTs and/or SATs over the course of 3 or 4 months. W. No matter what point you are on the educational timeline, start by calling us. Ron will help you make a plan.

Call 732-412-1416 today.

In a 20 minute phone consultation, Ron will give you clear, objective advice on when, how, and what to do. Without salesmanship. For the past two decades, Ron has spent countless hours on the phone with students, educators, and moms. He is a K-12 NJ certified math teacher who taught all levels (Algbra 1 through Multivariable Calculus) for three years at WHRHS and Holy Cross before becoming a professor of mathematics at Middlesex County College. Oh, and he's graded thousands of SAT essays for the College Board.

We offer 3 types of service:

  1. Private tutoring
  2. Small classes
  3. Online tutoring

Most students start out as either tutoring or class students. Tutoring students will often take classes here and there, and class students usually pepper in private tutoring sessions along the way. No two students take the exact same path through Foley Prep.

We sent our two older kids to The Princeton Review. We are sending our third to you. We’ve heard you are better, and you’re local!
— Rumson-Fair Haven Father, September 2017

Private tutoring folks: first steps...

All private tutoring takes place in one of our hubs or online - whichever is simplest for you. Our tutors are in demand and time is limited, so the earlier you book, the more likely you will get the time you want.

Most SAT and ACT prepsters start with a practice test. View practice test schedule. We have them every weekend, so they are a great way to come in and get the vibe of the Foley Prep Hub experience. Most people start this way:

  1. Call us to make a plan 732-412-1416.
  2. For SAT and ACT prepsters, sign up for a free a practice test to establish a baseline score. This step is optional, but helpful for us to start seeing individual strengths and weaknesses.
  3. Come to regular appointments once or twice a week for a few months.
  4. Continually take practice tests to motivate progress.

Foley private tutoring notables:

  • It's possible to combine classes and tutoring into a package. It's also possible to start with classes and switch to tutoring.
  • In addition to Mandarin Chinese, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, we have 6 active Calculus tutors through the AP level and beyond. Just call us to ask if you are wondering what subjects we offer.
  • We are working on the online booking system, for now we book via email, phone, and text.
  • All tutoring takes place in our hubs or online (if you wish).
  • We pair students up with tutors who will be in for the long haul (unless a change is requested). Foley Prep Pros act as a team, we may suggest a change in tutors, or you may wish to change tutors. We put students at the center of this experience, not ourselves.
  • We do not ask our tutors to stretch beyond their areas of expertise - AP Calculus teachers know how to teach AP Calculus, for instance.
  • All tutoring reservations are made with a $50 nonrefundable prepayment.

ACT & SAT class folks: first steps...

Our hubs have classes 6 days a week. Foley Prep is a closely held, owner-operated business so you are free to take classes at whichever hub you like - you are free to move between hubs as often as you like.

You don't have to follow these steps in order. Take your time, then contact us.

  1. Call us to make a plan 732-412-1416. We won't give you a sales pitch. We will give you the best advice on how to use our program and some tips about which test to take (ACT or SAT? Both?) and a plan for the year.
  2. If you are a mobile user, get the Foley Prep app. Or view the complete schedule on the booking site. Everyone is welcome to sign up and take 2 free, full-length practice tests before joining our program.
  3. Most prepsters start with a practice test to establish a baseline score, but it's okay to start by taking a class. "Open" classes are designed to be taken as many times as possible and as a first class, but you are welcome to start with any class on our schedule. Content and strategies are introduced and reinforced in each class.
  4. View and purchase a package or buy an individual class. This gets you access to our online reservation system. Please book classes at least 24 hours in advance so that we can design the best experience for your child.

Foley ACT/SAT class notables:

  • We ask that students register at least 24 hours in advance so we can personalize each lesson. There are no penalties for "dropping in" or "dropping out" of a particular class just before it happens.
  • Our Continuous Class Program is designed so that students can start anytime, pause, and continue.
  • There is no particular order to the classes. Each class is meant to be a standalone experience. Registering 24 hours in advance for class gives our Foley Prep Pros time to personalize each lesson by looking into each prepster's test records and notes we keep to ensure progress.
  • Because the SAT and ACT have a lot of overlap in content, it makes the most sense to prep for one test, but plan to take both tests soon after you've prepped.
  • We recommend at least 10 classes between taking the actual tests.
  • Class packages may be used for Boot Camp sessions for the SAT and ACT
  • We recommend taking a Foley Prep practice test every 3-4 or so classes. Think of them as motivational homework, not just measurement. Don't expect immediate, linear gains, rather, focus on integrating Foley Prep teachings to become a better problem-solver.

tutoring Vs. Classes

Tutoring is a concierge educational choice that is a great option for many. We pair students with a Foley Prep Pro for the long haul and will change tutors only at the request of the student or parent. Our Foley Prep Pro team puts your child's improvement at the center of the process.

Foley Prep classes cater to the most discriminating clients, but sometimes private tutoring is the only way to go. If a student comes to us in the high or low ends score-wise, we often ask that they go right into tutoring. That means students scoring 1400 SAT or 30 ACT or higher and below 1100 SAT and 22 ACT. After a time, we may suggest classes that are suitable, but very-fine tuned prep is the way to start.

Call anytime to discuss a plan with me, Ron Foley. I talk with moms, students, and fellow educators all day long. 732-412-1416.

Know and choose your tutor and program.

I hated working for Kaplan and other places that sold expensive packages students couldn’t fulfill to get their guarantees ... Foley is the real deal. No salesmanship.
— Former Kaplan tutor

We want to educate students, not haggle. Thus, we appreciate families who need our help yet also understand that everything is not negotiable. We ask that students register for classes at least 24 hours in advance so that we may personalize each lesson for the students in the class. If you are interested in private tutoring, please contact us at your earliest convenience as our tutoring slots are filling up fast.

  • Canceling 1-on-1 tutoring appointments within 24 hours risks incurring a full charge for the reservation and any future standing appointment reservations.
  • While it's possible to book classes last-minute, we ask that all students register for classes at least 24 hours in advance. This helps us personalize each lesson.
